This IB PYP complete unit of inquiry is perfect for exploring the concepts of Who We Are through human rights and responsibilities. Welcome to the world of inquiry based social studies, civics and human rights. It is ideal for 4th - 6th grade. U.K and USA spelling included.
The central idea is:
Global citizens have certain rights and a responsibility to protect those rights.
Through the concepts of form, causation and perspective, we look into the following lines of inquiry:
  • Human rights in a global context.
  • Responsibilities of global citizens
  • Imbalance of rights and responsibilities and the causes and effects.
This unit takes you on a six week journey exploring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the U.S.A’s Bill of Rights, comparing and contrasting those rights and the responsibilities that go along with human rights in an authentic, current and concept based way.
Activities are concept-based, hands on, engaging, differentiated and include the following:

Communication & Critical thinking through literacy:

  • Vocabulary inquiry
  • Close reading
  • Inferring
  • Main idea and supporting details
  • Personal narrative writing
