Developing IB PYP Research Skills: Formulating Questions
Formulating questions is such an large part of developing an IB PYP inquirer. It involves more than simply writing out a few questions. In order for our students to get the most from their investigations and to further motivate them as they learn those 21st century research skills, we have to start by building their awareness of higher level thinking, conceptual thinking and the art of formulating questions worthy of investigating. This presentation is a slide show that I created as part of our ongoing, remote learning experience, specifically made for my grade 4s. It is suitable for grades 3-6. I have provided printable charts and graphic organisers to support the children as they edit their original questions, taking their questions to a higher level. These are available in both UK and USA spelling. The slides are only available in UK English. The lesson is designed to be used AFTER the children have written their first set of questions for an inquiry or an observation lesson. It is a reflective thinking experience, building upon the Approaches to Learning Thinking and Research Skills. This resource provides a zip file with the PowerPoint slide show and supporting PDF documents. You can find many more inquiry based resources and ideas in my store and on my blog.
