Approaches to Learning Skills Awards Certificates for Lower Grades
The IB PYP Approaches to Learning skills are an integral part of the daily learning experiences within an inquiry-based classroom. These awards certificates, in both editable digital and PDF versions, are a fantastic way to acknowledge the children's’ progress with the sub skills that fall under each of the five umbrella skills: research, thinking, self management, social and communication skills. In addition to the all important acknowledgement of these skills being practiced, these certificates also raise awareness within the students of the skills that are being practiced on their journey towards greater autonomy with their learning. This set is best suited for little kids: K-2. You can find the set with language suitable for the bigger kids here. I have used these in multiple ways:
•To award the children’s progress with particular skills in our classroom
•To have the children reward other’s for demonstrating these skills. ( thus giving the children the opportunity to identify the sub-skills in practice)
•Within our whole school recognition ceremonies.
There are 29 awards for skills with a certificate each for boys and girls, making a total of 58 certificates, including UK & USA spelling. The certificates offer diverse clip art of children, giving a realistic image of our global population. You have a power point so that you can manipulate the slides and edit the text boxes and present digitally or print it. Or, you can simply print the PDF.
Sub-skills included within this set includes:
•Finding out
•Observation skills
•Predicting
•Investigating
•Taking action
•Sharing
•Collaboration
•Presentation
•Discussing
•Problem solving
•Making connections
•Time management….and so much more.
